August 21st is National Senior Citizens Day. This year, take your mom and dad out to celebrate. Many popular businesses want to help you celebrate. Here are six companies extending special discounts on National Senior Citizens Day or year-round.
1. AMC Theatres.
Take your parents to the movies. They’ll enjoy a break in a climate-controlled theater. With new movie releases each week, you’re certain to find a film they’re anxious to see. AMC Theatres extends discounts to seniors who are 60 or older.
A train is a picturesque and peaceful way to travel. It may take more time, but the scenery makes the trip enjoyable. Take your parent on a trip by rail. Seniors over the age of 60 enjoy a 10 percent discount on Amtrak and VIA Rail in Canada.
3. Ben and Jerry’s.
If you happen to be in Vermont, stop by Ben & Jerry’s and find out all about the iconic ice cream. Children 12 and under enjoy free tour admission, and seniors get $1 off the regular rates.
At the end of the tour, everyone enjoys free ice cream samples. There’s also a scoop shop for frozen treats. End the day with a tour of the Flavor Graveyard and a visit to the gift shop.
If you happen to be within reach of Hershey, Pennsylvania, seniors enjoy steep discounts on park admission to HersheyPark. While the park celebrates all things chocolate, the park has rides, a water park, stores, and a zoo.
There are two discount levels. One is for men and women between the ages of 55 and 68. Seniors who are 70 or older enjoy a bigger discount. With the range of activities and attractions, it’s a great park for all ages.
5. Hyatt Hotels.
Many hotels extend discounts to seniors. Hyatt’s discounts are among the best. Take your mom or dad on a weekend getaway and get a discount on their room using these discounts.
As an example of a discounted senior rate at the Hyatt, Hyatt Place Boston extends a discount of 10 percent to seniors. The actual discounts vary by date and location.
6. Old Country Buffet
Take your mom or dad out to dinner. Old Country Buffet extends a discount every day to seniors. The buffet is bound to have comfort foods your parents love. Discounts vary by location, but most offer a discount of at least 10 percent.
When time is limited, make sure your parents have the support they need to age at home. You don’t always have to be there. Focus on your own children or job and let caregivers take over for you. Caregivers can cook, clean, and keep your parents company.
